The Great Indian Destination Wedding Reception at Vivanta by TAJ, Kovalam

The UK-based Dr. Basil Skinner and Dr. Aneeta Skinner were very particular that their daughter’s wedding shouldn’t be any less than a fairytale wedding. Almost 10 months before the wedding the Skinners came down to Kerala and met us to brief us on the wedding that is to happen at Vivanta by Taj, Kovalam. The wedding was planned for two days with Mehendi and Sangeet on the first day and wedding reception on the second day. A destination wedding with guests from India, UK, Austria and USA, it was nothing less than a big fat Indian wedding.

After a civil wedding in the UK and a church wedding in Austria, Sharon and Nikolaus had their Indian destination wedding at Vivanta by Taj, Kovalam, Kerala.

The Venue
Vivanta by Taj Kovalam is a wonderful property with beach and a lagoon at both sides. It provides the guests with the lush greenery and serene atmosphere. The venue is big and can accommodate all guests who had come for the wedding. Mehandi and Sangeet were organised at the beachside venue, whereas the wedding reception on the second day was on the lawn facing the lagoon. Both ceremonies were accompanied by music, dance, and fireworks.

On the wedding day, Sharon came in a decorated boat through the lake and Nikolaus came on an elephant accompanied by Chendamelam. Sharon’s younger brother received the groom with all honor and they waited at the lakeside to receive Sharon. Accompanied by dancers they were taken to the Mandap, where the priest summoned their wedding.

The wedding reception had a feast of all traditional classical dance forms like Kathakali, Mohiniyattom, Bharathanatyam, Theyyam and Kalaripayattu. These dance forms were followed by Bollywood dance.

Sharon and Nikolaus
Sharon is a UK based Indian who is doing her MBA in the USA. Nikolaus, is an Austrian citizen, working in Frankfurt. They met at an official gathering five years ago and fell in love. Their love story advanced and resulted in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Kerala. Sharon chose to wear Ghagra-choli for both days. Nikolaus, as Sharon says, “Looked like an absolute Maharaja in his Shervani”.
